Bark that
grows back.
Cork is harvested from the outer bark of the cork oak. The tree stays standing and forms new bark, ready for a later harvest.
In Portugal, the bark rests for at least nine years between harvests. A renewable material, with time built into its story.

Answers for buyers, designers and anyone curious about cork.
What is cork made from?
Cork is the outer bark of the cork oak, Quercus suber. It is a plant material with a cellular structure that helps explain its low weight, resilience and insulation.
Does harvesting cork cut down the tree?
Skilled harvesting removes the outer bark while the tree stays standing and grows new bark. In Portugal, harvests must be at least nine years apart. This describes cork production; the origin of a particular bioQ piece can be discussed with your enquiry.
Why use cork for coasters and desk pieces?
Its natural texture feels warm in the hand, while its cellular structure slows heat transfer and cushions contact. That makes it an interesting material for everyday table and desk objects.
Is cork waterproof?
Cork resists moisture, but a finished product may also contain paper, MDF, fabric, adhesive or metal. For cork-faced trays and desk pieces, wipe spills promptly and avoid soaking. Follow the care for the complete piece.
Is every cork product solid cork?
No. The range includes cork coasters and blocks, cork-covered stationery, cork-facing over MDF and cork combined with other materials. Each piece's description explains the construction where it is specified.
Can you add our logo or artwork?
Share the piece, artwork and quantity. We will discuss a suitable treatment and prepare a proof for approval. The surface, colour, fine detail and construction affect which method is suitable.
Can we create a custom cork gift?
Start with individual pieces or an existing gift combination, or bring a new idea. Tell us the use, quantity, date and budget per gift so we can work out the construction and presentation with you.
Can the finished gift be composted or recycled?
That depends on the complete construction. Raw cork and a cork-faced box, diary or metal accessory have different end-of-life requirements. Keep and reuse the piece; ask about its components before choosing a disposal route.
Why do the grain and colour vary?
Cork comes from bark. Granule size, natural grain and the way it is prepared give surfaces different patterns and tones. Compare samples when a consistent finish across a branded order matters.
