bīj seed pens are rolled from recycled paper with a seed capsule at the tip: tomato, parsley, mustard, swiss chard or basil, one variety per pen, named along the barrel. The design is registered by bioQ and made by us. In 2024 it won Gold at Good Design Australia.

What the judges were looking at.

A pen that is also a packet of seeds is not a new idea. What was judged was how well this one does it: the barrel rolled tight from recycled paper so it writes like a pen, the capsule that keeps the seed dry until it is in soil, and the name of the seed printed where your thumb rests.

We registered the design, and we make every pen. Our Australian partner, Left-handesign, holds the rights to promote it there and entered it for the award. The Gold was won on that design.

The part that goes in the ground.

When the pen is done, the capsule end goes into a pot. The paper softens, the capsule dissolves and the seed does what seeds do. Our own planting film.
